More action on Mordechai Vanunu: From the NEC up: Barry White NEC Tue, 16 Feb, 2010

The recent meeting of the NEC’s policy committee has agreed to back a campaign of support for Mordechai Vanunu, an honorary member of the NUJ, who served 18 years in prison for revealing Israel’s secret nuclear programme.
As I recently reported, he has been placed under house arrest pending criminal charges for allegedly breaching the terms of his 2004 release, which includes a ban on contacts with foreigners (including his woman-friend it seems!)... read more

United together against Section 44

It’s not just professional photographers, including NUJ members, who are angry about the use of Section 44 to prevent photographers going about their work.
Many who took part in the Trafalgar Square demonstration on Saturday 23 January were, what you might, call ‘hobby photographers’ and their anger was well expressed in the current edition of Steam Railway... read more

No happy new year for Mordechai

Mordechai Vanunu, an honorary member of the NUJ, who served 18 years in prison for revealing Israel’s secret nuclear programme, has been placed under house arrest pending criminal charges for allegedly breaching the terms of his 2004 release, which includes a ban on contacts with foreigners.

In 1986 Vanunu told his story to the Sunday Times and was tricked into travelling to Italy by a Mossad agent... read more

Unite/BA and that injunction: Barry White Thu, 24 Dec, 2009

My first reaction to the decision of the high court in granting an injunction against Unite over their BA Ballot was one of anger and frustration, and a judgement that will have implications or us all.
As Professor Gregor Gall from the University of Hertfordshire said in his letter to the Guardian on 19 December, the decision of the judge to take into account the level of disruption that would arise from the proposed action does not appear to have any basis in law... read more
