Regional journalists could receive thousands of pounds to pursue stories thanks to a new scheme.
The Bureau Local has announced a new fund which will allow reporters to receive grants of between 1,000 and 5,000 to investigate an untold or underreported issue on their patch.

The Bureau Local is run by The Bureau of Investigative Journalism, with the funding coming about thanks to a partnership with the Open Society Foundations.

Applications for a share of the cash should have a clear public interest that could be happening in other communities too, base claims in evidence collected from both data and first hand accounts.

They must also be stories which could not otherwise be pursued because of time, money, technological or other resource constraints.

Applications for the first round are due by 10am Wednesday 7 March.

Information on how to apply can be found here.
